Site Update: Slovakia

Slovakia has been added to the Europe section of AerialF1, detailing seventeen of the twenty circuits found in the country. The nation has a limited motorsport industry but does boast a few kart tracks and many old street courses used prior to the country’s peaceful split from Czechoslovakia in 1992. Google Earth is yet to update imagery that includes the new Sloviaring.

Site Update: Bulgaria

Bulgaria has now been added to the Europe section of AerialF1, detailing fourteen circuits including five street courses, one airport track and eight kart tracks. Of the street courses, all are located on highways and incorporate bridges and therefore loop sections (with the sole exception of Varna). Although many street circuits around the world make use of these loops found at the junctions, only Bulgaria seem to use these to the extent they have. From Ruse which uses just one bridge to Sofia which utilises four (two bridges used each way).

Site Update: Czech Republic

Czech Republic has been added to the Europe section of AerialF1, detailing eight circuits in the country, some of which date back to before WWII and when the country was known as Czechoslovakia, peacefully splitting from Slovakia in 1993. The Brno circuits were used a lot in the 1930s, ’60s, ’70s and ’80s and went through many iterations before the permanent facility was built in 1987.

Site Update: Cyprus

Cyprus has been added to the Europe section of AerialF1, listing all eight kart tracks found on the Eastern Mediterranean island.

Site Update: Sweden

Sweden has been added to the Europe section, detailing 26 circuits out of the 28 total found in the country so far. Sweden has quite a history with motorsport, although many of the circuits are made from snow and ice each winter and therefore are not listed with aerial photography.

Site Update: Estonia

Estonia has been added to the Europe section of AerialF1, listing seven circuits that either have been or are currently used in the country. Like with so many other European nations, Estonia’s motorsporting history dates back to the pre-war era when Estonia was under its initial control of the Russian Empire.

Site Update: Serbia

Serbia has now been added to the Europe section of AerialF1, complete with Google Earth imagery for five circuits. Serbia’s motorsporting history can be traced back to the pre-war era where many races were held on public road courses.

Site Update: Ireland

Ireland has been added to the Europe section, with six of the thirteen circuits listed so far. The most famous of tracks in Ireland is Mondello Park, which still hosts events to this day. Many of the other circuits were old public road courses which are no longer in operation, although Hermann Tilke did design a city course in Dublin for A1GP in 2009.

Site Update: Portugal

Portugal has been added to the Europe page, complete with the popular testing circuit at Estoril. Portugal’s morotsporting history dates back to the pre-war era and with new tracks being built even now (such as the Portimao facility) the country is still keen to develop this industry. In total twenty-two circuits have been found, and so far seventeen are listed, complete with Google Earth imagery.

Site Update: Greece

Greece has been added to the Europe page, listing nine circuits with a few still to be added. A couple of new tracks were found as the Europe section slowly comes together. Being the largest part of AerialF1 it still has a very long way to go, but track by track it is slowly making shape.

Site Update: Croatia

Croatia has been added to the Europe page, with nine circuits found and listed with Google Earth Imagery. Originally, the site only listed Grobnik and Opatija circuits, but a few street circuits have now been added along with some kart tracks.

Circuit Update: Hockenheimring

The Hockenheimring page has been updated to show the various layouts over the decades. Although Google are yet to update the imagery to show the new layout, I recently discovered the older configurations that originally ran through the towns. The 1929 and 1938 layouts were abandoned when the main road (North to South in image) was built, which was when the new stadium section was designed and implemented and the lap became much shorter (12.045km down to 6.769km). The chicanes were added later to improve safety as a result of the tragic loss of Jim Clark.
